A performing arts venue for Oakland

About the Metro

The Oakland Metro is a black box theater and opera house, located at 201 Broadway just one block from Jack London Square in Oakland's thriving downtown entertainment district. The venue opened on December 1, 2001 with the Oakland Opera Theater's production of Gertrude Stein's Four Saints in Three Acts. It is a non-profit performance venue, and a program of Oakland Opera Theater - a 501(c)(3) organization.

Formerly a blues club, a Greek tavern, and a cabaret, the building stood vacant for three years before interior renovations where completed just in time for the opening of the opera. The space has a variety of possible seating configurations depending on the specific requirements of individual performances. It is equipped with a full theatrical lighting system, state of the art sound reinforcement and a beer and wine bar. The venue is a 3000 square foot converted warehouse with 22 foot ceilings and 16 foot windows on three full sides, making it a dramatic location for intimately-sized events. The Oakland Metro has a rated occupancy of 135-200 depending on the seating configuration.

The venue has limited accessibility for people with disabilities - entrance, seating and concessions service is accessible, restrooms are not. We are working on fundraising to build-out our accessible restroom. For booking information call 510-763-1146
