The Juke Joint
Where Hip Hop meets the Blues

To mark its 8th year of presenting New Style Motherlode Dance concerts, NSM will recognize their roots in dance with a tribute to the music that is the undertone of African American History - the Blues. Corey Action and Teela Shine have joined with fellow NSM choreographers, Neopolitan, and LaChanda Davis, to create a fun, pleasurable, high energy, and interactive dance show that will have you tapping your feet and up out
your seat.
Set in an old style Juke Joint, with a touch of Hip Hop Soul, NSM will transform the Oakland Metro into an interactive dance stage where the audience is part of the show. A Full Bar, Cocktail tables sofas, chairs and a Juke Box are set up on and around the stage area so that the audience can feel the vibe of the dancers and the dancers feel the vibe from the audience. Dancing to upbeat tracks from Hip Hop and R&B artists Nas, Tweet, Mos Def and John Legend, with down home blues tracks by John Lee Hooker, LaVern Baker, Ray Charles and many more.

Bio's

NSM (Corey Action and Teela Shine-Ross) founded the New Style Motherlode Dance Company in 1996. The directors envisioned a company that fused hip-hop, jazz, ballet, modern, and theatrical themes to present a realm of dance never seen before. With this vision, they formed a unique and dynamic dance company, consisting of dancers from all walks of life.
Accomplished dancers, musicians and choreographers, Action and Shine-Ross aspire to develop a multidimensional training and performance curriculum that explores all facets of dance and dance production. The New Style Motherlode Dance Studio is located at 5451 College Ave in Oakland CA. The studio is a home base for the dance companies, NSM, Diamond, Sparkle and Neopolitan and offers classes in dance forms that include modern, jazz, belly dance, Praise and of course, Hip Hop.

Neopolitan (Robert D. Lupo & Dahrio "Wonder" Hutton) The raw street flavor of Dahrio Wonder Hutton and the impeccable technique of Robert D. Lupo creates the eclectic style of dance that Neopolitan brings to the dance world. Having met in 1999, while dancing
under the direction of Corey Action and Teela Shine in the New Style Motherlode dance company, Dahrio and Robert soon found out that though having different backgrounds, their dancing really complemented each others' and their onstage bond was simply dynamic. Neopolitan thrives on creating new and exciting ideas in a very completive dance world. Hard work, creative concepts, professional attitudes, and versatile styles are only a few of the many qualities Neopolitan holds. This "new flava" of hip hop is definitely a treat for all

LaChanda C. Davis has been dancing for over twenty years. She is a
trained dancer in Jazz, Modern, West African, and Afro-Cuban dance. She
has been dancing with NSM since 1998 and is currently serves as the
Assistant Director of NSM and teaches Afro-Cuban Jazz at NSM Studio.
